Payroll - Student Employment Guidelines

Please review the full FSU Student Employment Guidelines.

Keep in mind:

To work on campus as a student employee at Framingham State University, the following eligibility requirements must be met:

  • The student must be currently enrolled full-time in a degree-seeking graduate or undergraduate program.
  • International students must be registered full-time (or certified as full-time for each semester) and must have authorization from the Office of International Education to work on campus.

Student workers are generally paid on an hourly basis with the exception of resident assistants and notetakers.

Students may not work during their scheduled class time, and Massachusetts state law required that a break of at least 30 minutes be granted after six consecutive hours of work. Students also may not be permitted to work more than 8 hours per day, across all of their jobs, and in no instance should a student be permitted to work more than 40 hours per week.

Student workers are limited in the number of hours they may work each week as described below:

  • While Classes are in Session = 20 hours per week.
  • Winter Break/Summer = Not more than 40 hours per week and not more than 8 hours per day.
