Dental insurance is available to “benefit eligible” employees and their qualified dependents. Dental insurance benefits are independent of your health insurance plan and determined by your employee category, unit membership, and applicable collective bargaining agreement.
Massachusetts Public Employees Fund Dental Benefits are offered to AFSCME members. Dental benefits become active on the first day of the month following the completion of 6 full months of employment. The cost of this coverage is paid entirely by employer contributions, as required by the collective bargaining agreement.
Health Plans Inc: MetLife Dental is offered to APA and MSCA members, as well as non-unit professional (NUP) and non-unit classified (NUC) employees.
- APA and MSCA members do not pay a separate dental premium cost, as it is covered by their collective bargaining agreements. Dental benefits become active 180 days from the date of hire.
- NUP and NUC employees, pay for dental premium costs, and dental benefits become active on the first of the month 60 days from the date of hire.
Employees with MetLife Dental coverage may register an account through the MetLife portal to review benefit profile information. Open the BHE Dental Plan Flyer for registration instructions.
