Answer: SMS messaging (or texting) allows the University to keep students informed, provide important reminders, and allow convenient communication with offices on campus.

*While text messages are a convenient communication tool, they are not suitable for sharing private and sensitive information.

  • Avoid Personal Identifiers: Refrain from sharing personal identifiers like social security numbers or passwords through text messages.
  • Double-Check Recipients: Always verify the recipient's phone number.

Two-Way Text Messaging
This service provides technical support for the University’s official two-way conversational text messaging communications platform (a.k.a. “Gecko”). This product is used to engage individual students, select groups of students or the entire student body, dependent upon the required circumstances. Approved individuals, departments or groups are granted the ability to send text messages to student(s) and students have the ability to respond to these text messages directly from their cellphone. All of the associated communications are captured and centrally managed within the text messaging application.
