Best Practices for Uploading Powerpoints in Canvas

Many instructors upload Powerpoint presentations onto their Canvas course sites for student review. Powerpoints can sometimes be very large files, and can quickly eat into the 500 MB of storage allotted to each course. However, there are a few ways to reduce the size of Powerpoint files:

1. Compress images
   Select Image -> Picture Format -> Adjust - Compress Pictures (More details here.)
2. Convert to PDF
   Select File -> Export -> Create PDF/XPS Document -> Click Create PDF/XPS -> Publish as PDF or XPS

3. Instead of uploading the file, link to the Powerpoint on Onedrive
