Body
Effective Winter 2024, the way term dates work in Canvas has changed. There is now no defined term start date, and the end dates have been extended out further past the official end of the term. All course members (teachers and students) will have full access for several weeks after the end of finals. After that, the course will become read-only for students. Teachers will continue to have full access for an additional full calendar year after that.

Login Experience Changing
Canvas, along with all non-Banner applications, will be moving to Microsoft AD Azure as the authoritative source for login and authentication.
What this means for you:
This change is planned to go into affect on Jan. 11, 2024. [Update: this change has been postponed until further notice]
- Users must log in with their full email address, including @[student.]framingham.edu
- There is no change to the Canvas URL It remains framingham.instructure.com, and all existing links and bookmarks to this page remain functional
- The login screen will look different - it will appear exactly the same as the one seen when you navigate to http://portal.office.com, and the screen that all users have been seeing when accessing Microsoft 365 apps (Outlook, Word, Powerpoint etc) on the web. The screen is a blurry pale background, and the Microsoft logo is seen in the center.
- No downtime is expected.
- If are already authenticated (already logged into email, for example), you may not be asked for login credentials from Canvas.
The New VoiceThread
VoiceThread, FSU's recommended solution for multimedia discussions and asynchronous presentations, has released the biggest update in the product's history, and you can start using it now! Read more about the update and how to easily opt-in here.
The majority of the changes are user interface changes designed to make Voicethread more compact and simplified. One highlight is the new ability to Zoom and Pan on the primary media while recording a comment. Finally, the new version of Voicethread is fully accessible.
If you haven't tried Voicethread before, now is the perfect time!
Perusall 1.3
Perusall has been updated with a deeper Canvas integration. This new integration allows for:
- Easier assignment creation: you can now create an assignment from Perusall and a matching assignment and gradebook column will be automatically created in Canvas.
- Enhanced gradebook syncing: with the deeper integration, student grades will automatically sync with Canvas, regardless of how they access an assignment.
- Canvas pages to be used as documents for your Perusall course: you can now select a page from your Canvas course to be annotated by students.
- Turnitin integration: Turnitin can check student annotations for similarity to other submissions as well as web sources.
Perusall has also updated other features this year, including:
- AI-generated questions (for faculty only). Looking to add some questions to your document, but not sure what to write? Perusall's AI can analyze surrounding text and suggest a question for your students!
- Perusall has added a graphical math editor for students to insert mathematical expressions
- Enhanced assignment options including student exemptions and more options for late assignments
- An option that makes answers to faculty questions visible only once a student has replied.
To add the new Perusall integration to your course, create a Persuall assignment and choose "Perusall 1.3." Then sign in to your Perusall account and set up your Perusall class! For more information, see "Integrating Perusall (LTI 1.3) in Canvas"
