McGraw Hill Migration (LTI 1.1 to LTI 1.3) - Summer 2025

Body

McGraw Hill Connect LTI 1.1 End-of-Life

The McGraw Hill Connect LTI version 1.1 will be sunset by the publisher in June 2025. It will not be available to use for FSU Summer 2025 courses and beyond. McGraw Hill offers an upgraded LTI version 1.3 app (the app is still called "Connect" but on Canvas it is simply labelled “McGraw Hill”). This app is already available on FSU’s Canvas Instance. To learn about the benefits of adopting LTI 1.3, see Why Platforms and Tools Should Adopt LTI 1.3.

If you are setting up a course for first time and/or you have not used any McGraw Hill integration before: you can just begin using the LTI 1.3 app. It will be the only one available to you.

If you have done a Canvas course copy from a past course that used the LTI 1.1 integration: you will need to migrate your course content as described below. Luckily, McGraw Hill has created a migration tool which will launch automatically when you launch the LTI 1.3 tool for the first time.

In either case, all you need to do is launch the LTI 1.3 tool. The primary launch workflow for Connect 1.3 is different from the 1.1 version. See below for more information.

How Launch McGraw Hill Connect LTI 1.3:

There are 2 ways to launch McGraw Hill LTI 1.3 in Canvas:

  1. Create a Canvas Module and activate the McGraw Hill module modal (found in the module "More menu": 3 dots on the right of the gray module bar). This is fully described in the McGraw Hill Integration: Connect-Canvas Pairing Guide
  2. Launch from the Course Navigation menu. To do this, you first need to enable McGraw Hill LTI 1.3 in Course Navigation:
    1. Click on "Settings" in your Canvas Course Navigation Menu.
    2. Click on the "Navigation" Tab in the course settings area.
    3. In the second list (hidden apps), find "Mcgraw Hill" (not McGraw-Hill Connect, McGraw Hill SimNet, ALEKS, etc)
    4. Click on the More Menu (3 dots) to the right of the app name, and click "Enable." Alternatively, you could drag and drop "McGraw Hill" from the hidden apps list (2nd list) to the top list.
    5. Finally, click "Save" at the bottom of this page. McGraw Hill will now be visible in Course Navigation.
    6. Click on "McGraw Hill" in your course navigation menu to launch
