Issue/Question:
What is the laptop requirement for students at FSU? Do you have any recommendations?
Answer:
Each student at FSU must have a newer laptop computer that was purchased within the last three years. The computer must meet the following minimum specifications:
| Operating System |
Windows 11 or macOS 15 Sequoia |
| Processor |
Intel i5 or equivalent (Windows) or M3 (Mac) |
| RAM |
8 GB |
| Storage |
256 GB |
| Battery life |
At least 2 hours of continuous use |
Important Note on Chromebooks, Tablets, and Macs
Chromebooks, iPads, and Android tablets to not meet the laptop requirement as they do not run an operating system that supports the necessary software, which requires a full version of Windows or macOS. The only tablets that meet this requirement are Windows tablets, such as the Microsoft Surface Pro.
If you are considering purchasing a Mac, you should consider your program of student. Some of the software required for your coursework may be incompatible with macOS, such as Microsoft Access. However, there are computer labs available on campus with the software that might be required. If you are concerned, please contact your academic department.
