Enhanced Rubrics in Canvas

As of May 2026, a Feature Option called Enhanced Rubrics has been enabled by default for all Canvas courses. This feature option does not add a new functionality, instead it is a major overhaul of the previous Canvas Rubrics workflow. Instructors who wish to revert to the legacy Rubrics workflow, may disable the Enhanced Rubrics Feature Option in their courses.

However, most instructors will not notice any disruptions to work. Enhanced Rubrics does not eliminate or disrupt any current workflows, but offers an improved experience in the following functional areas (click on each for a short video demo):

• Creating & Editing Rubrics (~3.5 min) - Drag & Drop to Reorder Criteria!
• Finding Rubrics (~1min)
• Importing and Exporting Rubrics (via CSV) (~2 min) - New!
• Managing Rubrics (~2 min)- See where rubrics are being used, archive old rubrics, duplicate rubrics and Copy to other courses. 
• Evaluating and Grading with Rubrics (~2 min)
