Panopto Video Editing Feature

To edit a video in Panopto, users follow four steps: access the platform, navigate to the video, edit and apply edits.

1. Accessing Panopto

To access Panopto, click Panopto Video from the left side navigation menu in your Canvas course. An alternative is to login to Panopto  directly.

2. Navigate to your video

Using the folder tree on the upper left of the user interface, find your video. If not in your course folder, check your "My Folder".

When you find the video, click the three dot menu. Choose "Edit".

3. Edit the Video

The editing interface is partitioned into three areas: a project components area on the top left (featuring captions, streams and metadata about your video), a playback monitor on the right and a timeline on the bottom.

To trim a video, select the cut tool (a green box with scissors).

When you select the cut tool, you will see a dark gray line appear at the beginning and end of the timeline.

Place the playhead at the location just before you want your video to start. Select the cut tool and click and hold and drag to the left. The area to be cut will be shaded in gray.

Repeat the same procedure for any footage at the end or in the middle of the timeline.

If you make a mistake, click the left pointing arrow at the top of the playback monitor to undo. Revert clears all edits.

4. Apply edits

The cut sections, shaded grey, appear in the timeline but once you apply the edits, will not appear in playback.

When you're ready, click apply and the edits will process.
