When would you use this?
You want assignments submitted in specific file types. Follow the directions below to select a certain file type. For example, you want students to submit assignments only in the Microsoft Word format.
Instructions:
In the process of creating a new online assignment, you can restrict file types.
1. For submission type select Online
2. In Dropbox that opens, place a checkmark in the boxes File Uploads and Restrict File Uploads Types
3. In the text box underneath Restrict File Upload Types, type in the format or file types of the documents you want students to upload their work. For example, docx or pdf (Word or PDF formatted documents). This will only allow students to submit their work in these formats. They will see a message redirecting them to upload work in one of these formats if they are trying to upload work saved in a txt file for example.
4. You do not need to add a space between two or more files types you are allowing in the text box. See the example Canvas has included below this text box that says "Enter a list of accepted extensions, for example: doc,xls,txt". Do not add a period before the extension.
