Canvas Student ePortfolios - Guide for Students (Fall 2023)

What is Portfolium/Student ePortfolio/Folio/etc?

Portfolium is a free digital portfolio and social networking platform that is integrated into FSU's Canvas instance and serves as the student ePortfolio solution within Canvas. Within Canvas, the tool is labelled as "Folio" and "Student ePortfolios" interchangeably but the actual product name is Portfolium.

Through the Canvas integration, students can access their ePortfolio from inside Canvas, and can even import assignments directly from Canvas to their portfolio.

To Access ePortfolio:

1. Log into Canvas

2. Click on "Account" in Global Navigation menu (upper left, under profile picture)

3. In the user Account menu, select "Folio"

4. Initially, you will see an embedded "preview" of your Portfolium Account. Click on the profile picture or name to open up your Portfolium profile. It should open in a new tab, and you should see https://portfolium.com/[username] in the URL bar.

5. Your Portfolium account has several features organized into tabs (just under the top banner) including: Profile, Portfolio, Connections, and more.

To Import Canvas Assignments

In order to be able to import directly from Canvas, students must first connect their Canvas and Portfolium accounts.

1. In Portfolium, open User Settings by clicking on the "Me" icon (with profile picture) in the top right.

2. Select "Settings" from the drop down menu.

3. From the left-side menu, select "Connected Apps"

4.  Under Canvas, click "Connect"

5. Now, when you select "Import Data" from the left-side menu, under "Select a provider", you should see Canvas listed with a status of "Connected".  Click to select Canvas, then click "continue"

6.  Click "Course Assignments" - a window will pop up with a list of your course assignments. The list will include the name of the assignment, the Canvas course the assignment is from, and the attachments that were submitted. Check the box to select the assignments you would like import (you can select multiple). Then click "Select" in the bottom right of the window.

7. Click "Import Now."

8. Click "View My Profile" to return to your profile. The newly imported assignments will be in the Portfolio Tab. Each assignment will be added as a separate project in the portfolio.

Sharing Portfolio and Projects

The URL for your Portfolium profile is https://portfolium.com/[username]. To link directly to the portfolio page, add /portfolio to the end (https://portfolium.com/[username]/portfolio). You can share the URL with anyone - they do not need to have a Canvas or Portfolium account. However, before sharing the URL, you must first adjust your privacy settings.

1. In Portfolium, open User Settings by clicking on the "Me" icon (with profile picture) in the top right.

2. Select "Settings" from the drop down menu.

3. From the left-side menu, select "Privacy"

4. To make your profile viewable by others, uncheck the first box "Only allow people I'm connected with to view my profile".

5. If you choose to leave the box checked, and therefore leave your profile private, you can still generate a share link to share with individuals. Check the box to reveal the share link.

You can also adjust the privacy settings of individual projects.

6. In the Portfolio tab, click on a project to open it.

7. Click "Edit Project" on the right navigation bar.

8. In the window that opens, click on the gear icon at the top right (next to "Preview").

9. Adjust the visibility settings to your desired setting, then click "done".

10. Click "Save Changes" button (upper right)
