Overview
Instructors often request that a colleague be added to their course so that the colleague can course-copy the course material into their own Canvas course shell. While ETO is willing to perform this action on request, it is not a best practice. When faculty are added to their colleagues' courses, care must be taken to ensure compliance with regulations relating to student privacy, intellectual property rights, CBA, etc.
The following are preferred, best-practice methods that instructors can access themselves to share course material between colleagues.
Methods:
1. Canvas Commons
Canvas Commons is a learning object repository that enables educators to find, import, and share resources. Instructors can share full courses, or course components like modules, assignments, quizzes, etc. When the item is shared, the instructor can choose whether it will be shared with either: all Canvas users (across institutions), all Framingham State Canvas users, a select group, or no one (private). To access Commons, click on the Commons Icon (letter "C" with an right arrow) in the Global Navigation menu (far left)

2. Send To (Direct Share)
With Direct Share, instructors can send individual Canvas items (but not full courses) to other instructor-level users in the account. To Direct Share, click on the More menu (three dots), the right of any of the following Canvas items: announcements, assignments, discussions, pages, and quizzes, and select "Send To." In the pop-up window, begin typing the name of the individual you would like to share the item with. Find the user's name, and then click send.
The receiving user can find the shared content by navigating to the their user account menu ("Account" in the Global Nav menu, under profile picture), and selecting "Shared Content," as described here: How do I manage content shared to me from other users?
3. Export/Import
Users can export an entire Canvas course as a .IMSCC ZIP file. The file will be downloaded to the folder you specify on your local computer or external drive. The file can then be shared with another user, but keep in mind that the file must be transferred to the other user in some way. In many cases, the file will be too large to be sent by email, so it may be necessary to place the file in a shared cloud storage location (OneDrive, Google Drive etc).
Finally, the exported and shared file can be imported into Canvas at a time that is convenient.
