When would you use this?

You are trying to add audio to your PowerPoint presentation, save it as a video, and then upload it to Panopto so that it can be viewed online as a video.

Instructions:

Creating a narrated PowerPoint and saving it as a video:

  1. First open a PowerPoint presentation that you already have.
  2. Then to add narration to a slide, go to the “Insert” tab in the top left corner of PowerPoint.
  3. From the “Insert” tab select “Audio” over on the right hand side
  4. Then choose the option to “Record Audio”
  5. To start recording narration for the slide, click on the red circle “Record” button and then when done, click the square “Stop” button.
  6. You would add your recorded audio to each slide separately
  7. Once you have audio recorded for all your slides, you would go to the top left of the screen in PowerPoint and choose “File”
  8. From your choices on the left hand side you would choose “Save As”
  9. Choose the “Browse” option to choose a place to save your video on your computer. (Make sure this is in an area where you can find the recording later)
  10. Once you have picked a place where the video will go, provide a file name. Under the file name you will see “save type as”, next to it will say “PowerPoint Presentation”
  11. Use the drop down box and locate “MPEG-4 video”. Click it then click “Save”.
  12. Then close out of the PowerPoint.

 

How to add PowerPoint video to Panopto:

  1. First, sign into Canvas with your Username and Password
  2. Go to the desired course you wish to add the video to
  3. When in the course, locate on the left hand side of the screen “course tools”.
  4. Go to“Panopto Content” by clicking on the blue words
  5. You will then see a green button on the screen that says “Create” (has a drop down arrow)
  6. Click the green button to bring up the list of actions.
  7. Click “Upload Media”
  8. This will bring up a dotted drop in box, Click anywhere inside the box.
  9. A separate window will appear with a list of all the files on your computer. Locate where you saved the MPEG-4 Video file from the previous section.
  10. Double Click on the file once you have found it. This will then start a green progress bar on the screen under the dotted drop in box.
  11. Wait for the video to finished uploading and processing. Exit from the upload window to return to your "Panopto Content" area.
  12. From there you will see the video processing and adding to the file.
  13. From this page you can go into “Edit” or “settings” to make any changes to the look or availability of the video.
