How to publish a Canvas course

When would you use this?

Courses in Canvas are not available to students by default. Instructors need to publish courses to make them accessible to students. Once your course contains a graded submission, the course status will no longer display in the sidebar and you will no longer be able to un-publish your course.

Instructions:

There are two methods to publish a course:

A. Publish from the Dashboard

1. Locate the course section on the Dashboard
2. Click the Publish button (located on the course card)
    

B. Publish from within the course

1. Access the unpublished course from the Dashboard 
2. Click the Publish button (under Course Status, upper right of page)
