Allow a new attempt to submit an assignment in Canvas

When would you use this?

An assignment in Canvas allows unlimited attempts by default and will present the most recent attempt in the SpeedGrader, with the option to toggle between submissions. However, if limited attempts are allowed, students will not be able to submit a new attempt if they reach the limit. Although submissions cannot be deleted by the instructor, it is possible to provide a new attempt to a specific student.

Instructions:

In the SpeedGrader, use the “Reassign Assignment” option to provide a new attempt to the student.

  1. Access the SpeedGrader for the particular student’s assignment submission.
  2. Click Reassign Assignment on the right side under the text box for comments. If this is greyed out, enter a quick comment first (e.g. “I’m giving you a new attempt on the assignment.”) and click Submit. (A comment must be entered in order to use the Reassign Assignment option.)
