TurnItIn Similarity is replacing Ouriginal as the similarity-detection solution in our Canvas instance, as a result of an acquisition.
Like Ouriginal, TurnItIn promotes academic integrity by comparing the text within submitted documents against a vast database of online sources to identify matching text. TurnItIn matches student submissions against sources on the internet, other submitted student work, and a publication database over 400x the scope of Ouriginal’s database.
As of August 2022, TurnItIn is already available. Ouriginal will no longer be available as of August 19, 2022. Here’s what you need to know:
- Any past student work that was checked with Ouriginal will be migrated to the TurnItIn database to be matched against future submissions (provided that you elected to submit the work to the Ouriginal database).
- Ouriginal Analysis reports of past assignments will still be available through December 2022. These can be downloaded if they are expected to be needed in the future. - If you course copied a course and some of your assignments were set to use Ouriginal for Plagiarism Review, they will NOT default to TurnItIn (they default to “none” for Plagiarism Review). You must review your assignment settings and set Plagiarism Review to “TurnItIn Similarity”
