How to clear cookies and cache in various web browsers and devices

When would you use this?

Many website issues can be resolved by clearing this data. You can verify that clearing cookies and cache will resolve an issue if you access the website in a Private/Incognito window, which only keeps browsing data for the browsing session.

 

How to clear the cookies and cache in different web browsers and devices:

  1. Windows
  2. Mac
  3. iPhone / iPad
  4. Android

*NOTE: This will sign you out of most websites. Make sure you know how to sign back in!*

Instructions:

 

Windows:

  1. In the browser, hold the Ctrl + Shift + Delete keys simultaneously to open the clear browsing data window
  2. Change Time Range to All Time or Everything
  3. Check the boxes next to "Cookies and other site data", and "Cached images and files"

Your settings should look like this:


    

  1. Select Clear or OK (note that this will log you out of most websites)
  2. Restart the browser

 

Alternatively, you can get to the Clear browsing data window in most browsers within their Privacy and Security settings. Some browsers may use slightly different wording or have this setting in another location.

Google Chrome:

  1. Click the menu icon, represented by the three dots in the top-right corner of the browser
  2. Select "More tools" > "Clear browsing data"
  3. For the time range to clear, select "All Time"
  4. Select "Cached images and files" as well as "Cookies and other site data"
  5. Click "Clear data" (note that this will log you out of most websites)

Mozilla Firefox:

  1. Click the menu icon, represented by the three lines in the top-right corner of the browser
  2. Select "Settings" > "Privacy & Security"
  3. Under "Cookies and Site Data", click "Clear Data"
  4. Choose the time range you want to clear ("Everything")
  5. Check the box next to "Cached Web Content" and "Cookies and other site data"
  6. Click "Clear" (note that this will log you out of most websites)

Microsoft Edge:

  1. Click the menu icon, represented by the three dots in the top-right corner of the browser
  2. Select "Settings" > "Privacy, search, and services"
  3. Under "Clear browsing data", click "Choose what to clear"
  4. Set the Time range to "All Time"
  5. Check the box next to "Cached images and files" and "Cookies and other site data"
  6. Click "Clear now" (note that this will log you out of most websites)

 


Mac:

Safari:

  1. Click "Safari" in the top-left corner of the screen
  2. Select "Preferences" > "Privacy"
  3. Click "Manage Website Data"
  4. Select "Remove All" (note that this will log you out of most websites) to clear all cached data, or select individual websites and click "Remove"

Google Chrome and Firefox:

  1. Hold Command + Shift + Delete simultaneously to open the clear browsing data window
  2. For the time range to clear, select "All Time"
  3. Select "Cached images and files" and "Cookies and other site data"
  4. Click "Clear data" (note that this will log you out of most websites)

iPhone / iPad

Safari:

  1. Open your phone Settings
  2. Navigate to Safari
  3. Tap Advanced
  4. Tap Website Data
  5. Remove All Website Data (note that this will log you out of most websites)
  6. Close the Safari app and reopen


Google Chrome:

  1. Open the Chrome app.
  2. At the bottom, tap the menu icon More
  3. Tap History > Clear browsing data.
  4. Check the boxes next to "Cookies, Site Data," and "Cached Images and Files."
  5. Tap Clear browsing data (note that this will log you out of most websites).
  6. Close and reopen Google Chrome.

Firefox:

  1. Open Firefox
  2. Tap the menu icon in the bottom-right corner, represented by three horizontal lines
  3. Tap Settings
  4. Under "Privacy" select Data Management
  5. Toggle the switches next to "Cookies" and "Cache"
  6. Tap Clear Private Data (note that this will log you out of most websites)
  7. Close and reopen the Firefox app

 


Android

Google Chrome:

  1. Open the Chrome app
  2. At the top right, tap the menu icon More
  3. Tap History > Clear browsing data
  4. Change the time range to All time
  5. Check the boxes next to "Cookies, Site Data," and "Cached Images and Files"
  6. Tap Clear data (note that this will log you out of most websites)
  7. Close and reopen Chrome

Firefox:

  1. Open Firefox
  2. Tap the menu button located on the bottom-right, represented by three vertical lines
  3. Tap Settings
  4. Under the Privacy and security section, tap Delete browsing data
  5. Check the boxes next to "Cookies" and "Cached images and files"
  6. Tap Delete browsing data (note that this will log you out of most websites)
  7. Close and reopen Firefox
