How to Map a Printer via IP Address

When would you use this?

Students looking to map a printer inside their classroom will need to connect to it via IP address.

 

Instructions:

  1. Go to your Type here to search bar, type Printers & scanners, and hit the enter key
  2. Click on Add a printer or scanner

  1. Scroll down and click on the option that says The printer that I want isn't listed and click on Add manually

  1. In the Add Printer dialogue box, click on Add a printer using an IP address or hostname, then click Next

  1. For Device type, select TCP/IP Device
  2. Type in the IP address in the Hostname or IP address section, click Next
  3. Name the printer, click Next
  4. Click Do not share this printer, click Next
  5. Click Finish

Additional Information:

If you encounter difficulties connecting, you may need to download additional drivers from the printer's manufacturer.

 

This driver would need to be added during the mapping process, where instead of choosing the default Microsoft driver, use the Have Disk option to upload a custom driver.
