Using Lockdown Browser to take a Quiz in Canvas

When would you use this?

Professors sometimes require that students have the Respondus LockDown Browser installed to take a quiz in Canvas.

Instructors: Please note that if your quiz is a New Quiz, Lockdown browser will automatically launch when the student clicks into the quiz. If your quiz is a Classic Quiz, this will not happen, and therefore the students must open Lockdown browser first, then navigate into the quiz. (Is it a New Quiz or a Classic Quiz?)

Instructions:

  1. On a regular web browser, sign into https://framingham.instructure.com/ using your FSU email credentials.
  2. Navigate to and open the quiz that requires LockDown.
    1. If Lockdown Browser is not already installed, you will be prompted to install it (Download/Installation Instructions). After installation, return to step 1.
    2. In some cases: Lockdown Browser will launch immediately. Begin Quiz.
    3. In other cases, Canvas will say that the application is not detected, but that is ok! Move onto the next step.
  3. Open the LockDown Browser application on your computer.
    1. On a Windows machine, type LockDown into your search bar on the bottom left to locate it. There will also be an icon on your desktop
    2. On a Mac, use LaunchPad or Spotlight to search for LockDown.
  4. Log in using your FSU email credentials.
  5. While inside LockDown Browser, navigate back to the quiz in Canvas and re-open it.
