How to Record PowerPoint with Capture using Chrome on a Mac

Note: Mac users can always download Panopto for Mac, rather than using the web-based Panopto Capture.

Overview

Google Chrome users with a Mac device can record a PowerPoint presentation with Panopto Capture using Screen or Application Capture. In this article, learn how to record your PowerPoint presentation on a Mac using Panopto Capture with Chrome.

1. Screen Capture

This method is ideal for users who want to capture a full screen PowerPoint presentation. If you are using a Mac computer with Catalina or above, you may need to provide additional permissions. For more information, please see Why isn’t my screen being recorded on Mac when using Capture?

1.1. Open your PowerPoint Presentation, and then open Panopto Capture in a browser tab.

1.2.  Select Screens and Apps from the top toolbar (Fig. 1)

1.5. Start the Capture recording and then start the PowerPoint presentation. Note: We recommend using the spaces feature and swiping to switch between Capture and the PowerPoint presentation, especially if you are using one screen. To learn more about this feature, visit Apple's article Work in multiple spaces on Mac. You can edit your video after recording using Panopto to trim the beginning and end of the recording as needed. To learn about the editor, please visit How to Trim a Video in the Editor

2. Application Capture

Capturing the PowerPoint presentation as an application allows you to capture only your slides even if you have other items on screen such as presenter notes or a preview of your camera.

2.1.  Prior to recording, make sure your PowerPoint presentation is in slide show mode, where the show type is set to Browsed by an individual (window).  Note: Alternatively, if your PowerPoint is presented in full screen, you can use your keyboard to tab back to your browser where Panopto Capture is open by pressing the Alt (Windows) or Command (Mac) key with the Tab key.

2.1.a. To adjust the show type to Browsed by an individual (window)  prior to presenting, select the Slide Show tab in PowerPoint and then select Set Up Slide Show (Fig. 4a).

Please make sure the application is active or maximized for it to appear.
