How to find the computer's name on a Windows PC

If you need to know your computer's assigned name for inventory purposes

Instructions:

To find the computer's name on a Windows PC, follow these steps:

  1. In the bottom left search box on your taskbar, type "view your PC name" and press Enter.
  2. A new window will open. Under the Device Specifications category, find Device Name. Your computer's name is the text located to the right of this. May also be labeled Device Name.

Additional Information:

Personal computers will typically have a string of random letters and numbers as their name (for example, ZY21AB). University computers are assigned a specific name and format. Typically, it will be the computer's A-Tag, B-Tag, or I-Tag followed by the assignee's username (for example, A12345-jsmith).
