Concluding Courses and Controlling Course Availability (Instructor)

Term Dates and Behavior for the Canvas Dashboard:

The Canvas Dashboard lists a sample of up to 20 courses you are enrolled in/teaching for the current (or upcoming) term

Instructors can control what is on their dashboard by using the Favorites feature, or by Concluding courses that are have completed. Concluding courses is different than adjusting the course participation dates and has a more effective impact on controlling the dashboard content. It is important to Conclude courses that are finished if you want to:

Term behavior in Canvas (all users):

Past courses are visible in your All Courses list.
  • If your course is not showing in this full All Courses list, see the Notes about Teaching Assignment (faculty) below for more information.
  • The next term courses will appear for faculty approximately in the later third of a given semester; the delay is to prevent over-crowding the Dashboard. Courses will appear for students once they are Published by faculty.
  • This Canvas Guide on How to Customize my Dashboard List provides additional detail and screenshots.

Additional notes about Teaching Assignment (instructors):

Login to myFramingham to verify that your official teaching assignments are up to date on the Faculty Dashboard.

  • If the course you are looking for is missing from your teaching assignments in myFramingham, contact your department chair or program coordinator so that they can communicate with the Registrar's Office.
  • If the course appears in myFramingham but not in Canvas, then you can reach out to eto@framingham.edu and we will investigate the situation.
    • Merges: Courses where the enrollments are merged into another companion course are intentionally omitted from Canvas. The goal is to have one combined course for all of your students. For example, if you are missing an 800/300 section but find its counterpart in Canvas, check the People page of the existing course in Canvas and compare it to the rosters in myFramingham to verify that you have a combined course (students from both the 300-level and the 800-level). If there is a problem and the Canvas People page does not include students from both courses, email eto@framingham.edu and we can investigate and work with you and the Registrar's Office so that they can make any changes to the merge.
