Directory Services

Overview

Directory services provide the ability to capture store, retrieve, and manage information that is required in order to uniquely identify, classify, locate, and verify authorized users of information technology resources that are within the domain of University provisioned systems, services and devices. Included with this service are the following:

  • Ensuring adequate software licensing and subscriptions to cloud computing services for the Framingham State University community of Students, Faculty, Staff, and other authorized users of accounts and resources that are reliant on directory services.
  • Design and administration of Microsoft Active Directory (AD), a legacy directory service that Microsoft developed for the Windows domain networks. It is an umbrella title for a broad range of directory-based identity-related services. Active Directory Domain Services is the cornerstone of the University’s Windows domain network.
  • Design and administration of Azure Active Directory (AAD) is the University’s cloud-based identity and access management solution. Both AD and ADD co-exist and work together within Framingham State’s hybrid on-premise and cloud-based environment.
  • Handling of routine modifications, managing domains, auditing user permissions across platforms, developing strategies for systems backup and recovery, providing technical support to users, and ensuring compliance with regulations and policies.
  • Development, modification, documentation and maintenance of “PowerShell” scripts for suitable automation of repetitive and routine Active Directory administrative tasks such as creating user accounts, organizational units, etc.
