"Sign in is Blocked" Error Message for Azure Login (for Canvas)

On March 18th, the login for Canvas was changed to Microsoft Azure. Users will need to log in using a full FSU email. For most users, this means they will need to add @student.framingham.edu or @framingham.edu to their Canvas username.

How do I know my email address?

When your account was created, an email address was assigned. For students, this address is [username]@student.framingham.edu. For faculty and staff, the address is [username]@framingham.edu

When I try to login, I get a "Sign-in is blocked" message:

If you're receiving an "Sign-in is blocked" message like the one below, there are two possible reasons:

1. You entered your username without the correct email domain (@student.framingham.edu or @framingham.edu)

2. You may already be logged into another Microsoft account and may need to click on "+Use another account" on the first page of the sign-in process.

I get a message to set up Multifactor Authentication, what is that?

Microsoft Multi-factor Authentication (MFA) creates an additional layer of security when logging into your Microsoft Office 365 account. For more information, see Multi-Factor Authentication.

Will this keep me logged in across different applications?

If you access Canvas in a browser where you are already authenticated via Microsoft (already logged in to your FSU email, for example), you may not be asked for login credentials from Canvas at that time.

Why is this change needed?

Over the next several months, all non-Banner applications will be moving to Microsoft AD Azure as the authoritative source for login and authentication. We anticipate this change will help streamline the Single-Sign On (SSO) process across campus, creating a more seamless experience for the community. We’ll be in touch as additional applications are converted!

We recommend reviewing our knowledge articles about Accounts and Access as a refresher on Multi-Factor Authentication (MFA), resetting your password, and more!
